Yosemite

Yosemite National Park (44 miles/1.25 hours from Mariposa) The majority of people who visit this 1200-square-mile park seldom get beyond Yosemite Valley and its magnificent waterfalls-but there's much more here, if you have the time and energy to do some hiking.
YosemiteLG

Yosemite is about nature on a grand scale, from its iconic Yosemite Falls-at 1,425 feet, the highest in North America, to Half Dome, an granite monolith that rises nearly 5,000 feet straight up from the valley floor, and 13,114-foot Mount Lyell, the park's highest peak. You can join the rock climbers or simply watch them from a few thousand feet below; you can take short hikes to tumbling, cascading waterfalls, go fishing in the Merced River and visit the valley's museum and visitor center. You can ride around the valley in the free buses, hike up to beautiful Mirror Lake, or peddle a bicycle around the valley. Your choice of overnight accommodations in the park can range from tents and cabins to a cozy room at Yosemite's historic Ahwahnee.
